When I Am Silent...

Why do I love this quote? Why does it speak to my heart?
Each one of us plods along this journey called life and we block big parts of ourselves deep inside that we don't want to share with anyone. It's the THUNDER we're too scared to share. In case we're hated, in case no one understands, in case no one approves or in case we shine 'too much' if there ever was such a thing as shining too much.
In fact, we don't even realise we are on a journey. We just mindlessly move whichever way the wind takes us and then...
One day, something drastic happens and we get a big wake up call and suddenly what we've been hiding starts fighting to come out and breathe. All those parts of ourselves that have been rumbling inside show their face. You suddenly see a true reflection in the mirror and you think...
'Damn! Was I covering all that up?!'
That's when you have to face yourself and see all the parts. The good, the bad and the ugly. At first you're shocked and don't know what to do but slowly you will learn that you have to keep going, you have to breathe, learn from the mistakes and carry on. Let go of control. Let go of holding on too tight. Let go of your ego. Let go of people.
You have to really let go of a lot and open your palms up in dua (prayer) to receive the blessings ALLAH (God) has in store for you. It's a long hard journey to get there but it's a process and every day is a baby step.
With faith in ALLAH and yourself, it slowly but surely becomes possible. Every day, you learn how to love a new part of you, whether it's good, bad or ugly. You learn how to accept your mistakes, you learn how to accept your feelings (oh yeah, they can be accepted), you learn how to forgive and through that process of embracing the less pleasant parts of yourself, you learn who and what you are, you learn what your unique gifts are, you learn what your purpose in this world might be and then you begin to own your true nature unapologetically and you start shining your light and that is when life becomes more meaningful, more joyful and more purposeful.
Through the process of facing those inner parts and polishing your soul, you eventually connect with ALLAH, in fact you fall in love with HIM a little bit more each day and that is when you experience inner joy, peace, calm and purpose.
I'm still working on it but I've come a long way. I have faced a lot of that thunder and even though I know there is still more to face and there always will be, because life is a journey of discovering yourself and your relationship to ALLAH, I do feel much more purposeful about my life and the choices I make. Everything is assessed by the meaning it adds and not just done for the sake of doing and now that I'm in this new place, I feel like sharing and helping others do the same.
So, I will be sharing my thunder and rumblings or ramblings, whichever suits you better with you on here and I hope it inspired you to face your thunder and shine your light.
