That Elusive Thing Called Happiness And How To Acquire It
- MAINTAIN AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE. Always focus on the positives and be thankful for them. If you're not doing it already, keep a daily gratitude journal.
- EXPECT GOOD OF ALLAH. Know that whatever the decree that befalls you, good or bad is in reality ALLAH shaping and moulding you for something better.
"If you knew how ALLAH handles your affairs for you, your heart would break out of love for him." Imam Shafiee
- LET GO OF THE NEED FOR APPROVAL. Only look for ALLAH's appreciation and approval in what you do and don't expect anything from the people because if you know your intention is good, then know that ALLAH is pleased with you and that is enough to be happy.
- REMEMBER ALLAH MUCH. Take solace in the fact that when you remember HIM, HE will remember you in a better gathering and you will instantly feel peace at the mention of your name in the heavens and start feeling better.
{Is it not in the remembrance of ALLAH that the hearts find rest} Quran 13:28
- REPENT FOR YOUR SINS AND SEEK FORGIVENESS. When we sin, our heart goes into turmoil, the devils surround us and we then start feeling down. The way to reverse this is to constantly seek forgiveness and the person who seeks forgiveness constantly opens the doors of rizq and acceptance of duas.
- REMEMBER THIS LIFE IS TEMPORARY. Whenever an affliction befalls you, remember that this life is temporary and be pleased with the fact that ALLAH is saving better things for you up in Jannah should you continue to do good.
{Verily, to ALLAH we belong and to HIM we return} Quran 2:156
- HELP OTHERS. Helping others gives you a sense of satisfaction and joy that is fulfilling and adds happiness to your life. However, make sure you do this from a sense of wanting to help and give and not out of obligation. Help yourself first and then when you help others it will bring you joy.
- TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY. When we eat well and move/exercise, our body releases endorphins that keep us happy all day. So try to start your day with some exercise and healthy eating.
- HAVE DREAMS THAT YOU ARE WORKING TOWARDS. When we have no hope, no ambition, no goal and no direction in life we feel like our life is a waste and we are also a waste of space and time. Having goals keeps us occupied, keeps us hopeful of a better future and more positive things to come.
- DO GOOD DEEDS. Doing good makes ALLAH (swt) pleased with you and it makes the angels surround you and this brings a sense of happiness and peace and keeps grief and sadness away.
{Indeed those who believe, do good deeds, perform salah and give zakat they will have their reward with their LORD, they shall have no fear and nor will they grieve} Quran 2:277
